My Journey Through Life

Here we are again for the last post of my trip to Rome!

On our last full day in Rome we went to the Vatican City. We took a train from Trastevere to the Vatican City and went through the lovely streets to Piazza San Pietro. There, we got in line for the Vatican Museum, which at 10 am was already huugee. Fortunately a women started talking to us offering a guided tour with line skipping for I think 30€ per person. We weren't sure if you should do it or not, but luckily we accepted and went to their office. We had to wait there for the german tour to start, and then we finally were able to skip the line and enter the museum.

After entering the Vatican Museum, you practically immediately go into the Cortile della Pigna. Its a beautiful garden which is named after the huge bronze pine cone. In the mittle of the garden is a golden globe, which was gifted to Pope John Paul II in 1990.

After being in the garden, we continued our guided tour inside the museum. I'm still overpowered over the paintings, statues and the architecture itself. I'm really into art, so the museum was like heaven for me. There were so many incredible painting with so many details, it's hard to describe.

After leaving the Vatican Museum, we stepped into the aaamaaazing Sistine Chapel. I really really recommend visiting the chapel, even if it's a bit pricey. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of it since you're not allowed to take photos in there. Of course all churches have great paintings, but the one in the Sistine Chapel is unbelievable, especially the paintings on the ceiling.

While we were in the museum and in the chapel, it had started to rain - a lot. From the Sistine Chapel to the Basilica of St. Peter's you have to go downstairs. Since it was raining really bad, these stairs were pretty slick. My friend fell down, and since she was afraid of her reflex camera, she protected the camera and landed on her elbow. Just minutes later we realized, that she was full of blood but we didn't speak any italian. Fortunately, our guide was still next to us, so that the talked to the guards who took us to a seperated place in the basilica. A few minutes later, a doctor arrived and had a look on the elbow of my friend. She had a deep hole in her skin so that they called an ambulance who took her with another friend to the hospital.

After that incident, the three of us who were left were so exhausted and sluggish, that we just took a few photos inside of the Basilica of San Peter's and left shortly after. I actually wanted to go up to the Dome, but since there was a storm with lightnings my friends were afraid to go up.

So we went out into the rain, and ran under the colonnades of the San Peter's Square, getting totally wet and - finally enough - when we got out of the Vatican City it stopped raining.
We got ourselves traditional italian panini and went to the Castel Sant' Angelo.
There we took some photos of the bridge and the impressive castle, but decided we were really tired and went to a lovely café nearby.
We actually wanted to go shopping on this day, but we were so tired, that we did stroll torugh Via del Corso, but didn't enter any shop.

Later on, we met our friends in front of the Piazza Venezia, went home for a refreshing shower and had dinner in the restaurant of the night before. It was a really lovely ending of our trip to Rome, which I will never forget.

On Saturday, we left pretty soon, because we had to get the bus to get to Rome Ciampino. Fortunately we left so soon, since we needed nearly 3 (!!!!) hours to get to the airport because there was so much traffic. But we had fun during the ride, since a really funny guy started talking to us and entertained us.

That was our trip to Rome, I hope you enjoyed the posts and maybe I was able to pitch you to this lovely and beautiful city.
See you next time beautiful people! - Sara xx

Buongiorno Guys!

Here we are with Day 2 of my Rome Adventure 😁

After having Breakfast, we took the tram to the Piazza Venezia, from where we walked to the Pantheon through lovely little streets.

The Pantheon is truly impressive. I mean can you believe that it was built in 114 AD? I often forget how old these building are... There were lots of people again, so we didn't stay there for a long time. It's definitely worth a visit, but in my opinion it's just a walk by station since there isn't a lot to see in the inside. Remember that it's a church and that you have to cover your shoulders and knees! Tip #3: Take a scarf with you, even if it has more than 20°C outside - You can just throw it over so that you can enter the churches :)

After being in the Pantheon, we went to the popular Piazza Navona, where I could have stayed for a longer time to be honest. I really enjoy watching street artists by their work, being it singing, drawing, etc

Piazza Navona

Piazza Navona

My friend - who was kind of our guide all the days we stayed in Rome- told us that we'd have an amazing view over Rome from another of the seven hills - the Aventine Hill. So we walked from the Piazza Navona along the river Tiber to the Orange Gardens. On our way there, we stopped by the Tiber Island, the only island in the Tiber River. It's so calm there; I can totally understand why there were some people sleeping and reading on the south-east end of the island.

Tiber Island

The way up to the Orange Garden was really exhausting, but worth it. The Garden itself is soooo beautiful (there was even a wedding shooting 😍), but the view over Rome is so amazing! So tip #4 go up the Aventine Hill and visit the Orange Garden!

Just a few steps from the Orange Garden is the Church of St. Mary of the Priory. This church or better it's keyhole is known all over the world because when you're watching through it, you can see the dome of the St. Peter's Basilica.

It was about 4 o' clock in the afternoon when we decided that we were already going home, so that we could shower and go out for dinner. We went to a lovely restaurant in Trastevere and enjoyed Pizza and Spaghetti for a totally reasonable price! After eating, we strolled through the streets of Trastevere and went to a bar I think next to the Piazza della Scana and than to one next to the Piazza Trilussa.

And here's our route from Day 2:

So, that was day 2! Day 3 and the most emotional, funny, exhausting and stressful day is following in a few days. So you there and till then, leave a comment!

Hey Guys! Like I promised I'm back with a new travel related post :) I'm gonna tell you about my trip to Rom in May 2015.

I went with four friends from uni for 4 days to the capital of Italy. We found a pretty cheap flight from Memmingen to Rome Ciampino for 20€ each flight. As accomodation, we had an airbnb in Trastevere for 4 nights, 70€ each of us. The flat wasn't huge, but very lovely and totally acceptable for the stay.

We landed at I think 10pm in Rome and took a taxi to the flat. Here's the first #Tip: Look for a nice taxi driver because we had a very unfriendly one (and I still think he screwed us since he didn't follow the instructions of the GPS)

Well the next day, we first went to a supermarket nearby and bought our breakfast as well as some bread for lunch. After that, we took the Tram to the city centre. We left the tram and it's final destination in front of the Piazza Venezia.

It's a very beautiful square with the impressive Altare della Patria, also known as the Vittoria Emmanuele II monument. It's in front of the Venezia Palace and it's the place where two of the ost important streets of Rome meet: The Via del Corso and Via dei Fori Imperiali.

Piazza Venezia and the Monumento Vittorio Emmanuele II

After being in the Altare della Patria, we went further in direction to the Forum Romanum. Walking down the Via dei Fiori Imperiali, you get to see some excavations which feels so unreal if you remember that they are about 2000 years old...

Mercato Di Traiano

When we arrived at the Forum Romanum, we bought the Roma Pass, which is Tip #2. The Roma Pass costs 34€ and can be used for 3 days. It gives you two free entries to any monument, plus reduced entrance for the other monuments you visit in this three days. Also, it's a three-day-ticket for the local traffic.

Forum Romanum from the Palantine Hill

The Forum Romanum is absolutley worth a visit, since it's so breathtaking looking at these ancient buildings and excavations... I was even feared touching anything :D
Tip #3 is going up the Palantine Hill to the Farnese Gardens. Besides of the magnificant garden itself, which is a lovely place to have a picnic and relax, it's also a perfect spot to have a look from above to the Forum Romanum and the backside of the Altare della Patria. But look for the pigeons! (two of my friends had the pleasure to be shit on lol)

Colosseo

After lunch, we went on to the Colosseo, which is as amazing as the Forum Romanum. Once again, we used the Roma Pass and used the second free entry.

We then took the metro from the Colosseo Station to Spagna Station so that we reached Piazza di Spagna and the famous Spanish Steps.

Piazza di Spagna e Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti

But as you can see in the photo there were a looot of people so we didn't sit down for a lot of time, but decided to walk to the Piazza del Popolo. But we didn't go through the Via del Bambuino, but went up the Spanish Steps and strolled through the Via Gabriele D'Annunzio. There we had a great view over Rome and also got to see the Villa Medici (at least from the outside)

View from Via Gabriele D'Annunzio

Unfortunately, the obelisk was being restored, so we couldn't see his whole beauty (The same happened to the famous Trevi Fountain so we didn't visit it... What I really regret!!)

Piazza del Popolo

After lingering around the Piazza del Popolo, we went to a nice little café and enjoyed a typical italian caffè. Then we walked through the shopping street Via del Corso back to Piazza Venezia where we took our tram back home. On this evening, we cooked ourselves and enjoyed rice, vegetables and prawns 😋

So that's it for the first day, Day 2 and 3 will follow soon :) Just leave in the comments if you liked it and if you want to know anything more about Rome :) Did any of you have been to Rome and has something more to add?
